Environmental Specialist – Junior/Mid-Level

Job Description

Cabrera Services Inc. seeks a Junior/Mid-Level Environmental Specialist to work at Federal remediation projects located throughout the United States. Will perform a wide array of tasks to support environmental field investigations, including the coordination of necessary permitting requirements for projects. Will conduct environmental field investigations including the installation of monitoring wells, sampling various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, air, etc.), data analysis and interpretation and report writing. Will travel to local and national project sites to perform field work. Candidate will work under the oversight of the Project Manager and key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting Project Managers (PMs) and Project staff with environmental permitting strategies and execution on environmental investigation and remediation projects

  • Perform project inspections and self-assessments for environmental (RCRA, TSCA and other regulatory) compliance, including sediment and erosion control

  • Provide technical support to team members for other aspects of the site environmental program

  • Organize and develop documentation to meet environmental reporting and record-keeping requirements for projects

  • Develop work plans (FSP, SAP, and UFP-QAPPs) to plan, track, and report routine and non-routine records, permits, and reports

  • Development and obtain required permits for regulatory compliance as required by project (NPDES, well permits, etc.)

  • Perform environmental data collection (compliance monitoring and sampling), tracking, and reporting

  • Assist in performing sampling events and inspections to comply with state/federal regulations, to include collecting samples; coordinating with laboratories and data analysis/management

  • Compile data, prepare reports, and participate in technical reviews

  • Assisting with writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memorandum

  • Office work may include task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, report writing, regulatory file review, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget

  • Support project close-out and post remedial action reporting efforts

  • Be flexible and work across a wide range of media

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum years of experience: 5-8 years’ experience in a similar position

  • Education required: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources Management, or other related discipline

  • Previous experience with environmental permitting through working with DOD and DOE clients, including US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE)

  • National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance experience, including supportive field studies and technical report writing

  • Experience providing on-site support for environmental programs at federal installations is preferred, including ability to gain access to work on a Federal government facility

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Significant experience at Superfund sites or similar (e.g., FUSRAP, CERCLA, FUDS, BRAC, etc.) under USACE jurisdiction

  • Knowledge and experience with remediation (environmental/radiological) excavation, decontamination, demolition, material handling, on-site treatment, off-site waste transport/disposal, environmental sampling/laboratory analysis, and site restoration means and methods

  • Exhibiting ownership of delegated tasks, including responsibility for coordination and delivery of on-schedule and on-budget tasks

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Professional work attitude and ability to participate on a team supporting a wide range of environmental compliance activities

  • 40-hr HAZWOPER training with uninterrupted 8-hr Refresher course records

 

Description of Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with significant diverse environmental experience and sound technical/regulatory knowledge who can effectively evaluate, interpret, and assist the project team in implementing site-specific environmental requirements and per accordance with project plans and specifications.

The ideal candidate has excellent technical writing and editorial skills to effectively develop, review, and produce final versions of required deliverables to a host of clients and regulators. Candidate shall be comfortable representing the company in meetings and on conference calls to regulators and/or clients. This person will function as a member of a diverse project team committed to regulatory compliance and client satisfaction while meeting performance objectives with a high level of quality. The ideal candidate understands and is committed to ethical & professional conduct.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in outdoor environments and field trailers and understands that the work schedules must remain reasonably flexible to support the overall Remediation Team schedule.

 

Other Information

Required ability to meet fitness-for-duty (drug & alcohol testing), medical, respirator use, background screening, training, strength/dexterity, and other requirements necessary for complete job performance. Field assignment typically involve routine use of modified Level-D PPE, occasional use of elevated PPE and respiratory protection and; work in a wide range of temperatures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with the hands and arms in the operation of equipment or instruments located in the work environment.  The employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally required to stand, walk, or stoop.

Please note that travel is required for this position and travel compensation (e.g., mileage or per diem) will be determined on a project by project basis.  Work hours are as directed by the client.
