Environmental Technician - Junior Level

Job Description

Cabrera Services Inc., a growing radiological and environmental remediation company, seeks a Junior Level Environmental Technician to work at Federal remediation projects at various locations throughout the west coast, and specifically the Bay Area. Candidate will travel to project sites to perform a wide array of tasks to support environmental remediation to include soil excavation, backfilling, waste bulking, and/or demolition services, in accordance with established company policies and in accordance with direction provided by the Site Foreman and/or the Site Superintendent. Work includes handling hazardous materials and use of personal protective equipment and key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting project staff with execution on environmental investigation and remediation projects, to include environmental data collection (compliance monitoring and sampling), tracking, and reporting

  • Perform physical labor associated with environmental remediation, demolition, cleanup activities, sample collection, waste removal; soil stockpile maintenance and other remediation services

  • Use equipment and tools in a safe and appropriate manner to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life per all relevant policies and procedures

  • Operate various types/pieces of equipment used during site cleanup operations

  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment

  • Perform project inspections and assessments for environmental compliance, including sediment and erosion control

  • Provide technical support to team members for other aspects of the site environmental program

 

Minimum Qualifications 

The successful candidates shall have, at a minimum, the following qualifications:

  • Years of experience: 3-5 years’ experience in a similar position

  • 40-hr HAZWOPER training with uninterrupted 8-hr Refresher course records

  • Demonstrated proficiency in both oral and written communication with the fundamental knowledge of mathematics or High School Diploma/General Education Diploma (GED) or Trade School Experience 

  • Knowledge providing on-site support for environmental programs at federal installations (DOD and DOE)

  • Ability to gain access to work on a Federal government facility required

  • Excellent/clean driving history

 

Desired Qualifications

Ideal candidate shall also have the following:

  • Experience at Superfund sites or similar (e.g., FUSRAP, CERCLA, FUDS, BRAC, etc.) under DoD, Navy and/or USACE jurisdiction

  • Knowledge and experience with remediation (environmental/radiological) excavation, decontamination, demolition, material handling, on-site treatment, off-site waste transport/disposal, environmental sampling/laboratory analysis, and site restoration means and methods

  • Exhibiting ownership of delegated tasks, including responsibility for coordination and delivery of on-schedule and on-budget tasks

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Professional work attitude and ability to participate on a team supporting a wide range of environmental compliance activities

 

Description of Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in outdoor environments and field trailers and understands that the work schedules must remain reasonably flexible to support the overall Remediation Team schedule. Typical field assignments range from weeks, to months, in duration and workdays and hours vary. This person will function as a member of a diverse project team committed to regulatory compliance and client satisfaction while meeting performance objectives with a high level of quality and attention to safety. The ideal candidate understands and is committed to ethical & professional conduct. 

Other Information

Candidate will report to a set project site location daily, and travel to/from project sites as required, for assigned durations and travel compensation (e.g., mileage or per diem) will be determined on a project by project basis. 


Required ability to meet fitness-for-duty (drug & alcohol testing), medical, respirator use, background screening, training, strength/dexterity, and other requirements necessary for complete job performance. Field assignment typically involve routine use of modified Level-D PPE, occasional use of elevated PPE and respiratory protection and; work in a wide range of temperatures.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with the hands and arms in the operation of equipment or instruments located in the work environment. The employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally required to stand, walk, or stoop.
