Radiological Control Technicians

Job Description

Cabrera is seeking experienced radiological control technicians of various qualification levels for planned positions supporting commercial & governmental clients in the California Capital Corridor (between Sacramento & San Francisco).

Typical roles & responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform and document radiation and contamination surveys, collect and analyze air samples, operate radiation monitoring and gross radioactivity measuring instrument

  • Perform routine surveillance and maintenance of radiological postings

  • Additionally, performs job coverage of moderate/highly complex radiological work assignments, identification of proper radiological work practices, and assist in the development of radiological work packages and radiological work permits

  • Reviews complex radiological projects from conception to completion of work planning activities and developsradiologically sound, cost-effective means of keeping radiological exposures as low as reasonably achievable

  • This may include dealing directly with Subcontractor engineers, project managers, and others to ensure designs and solutions are properly implemented.

  • The required support may include completion of detailed calculations, shielding design, complex work controls, and other similar activities

  • Provides technical support activities in accordance with established procedures to assist in the performance of environmental monitoring and testing activities in compliance with all environmental regulations

 

Minimum Qualifications 

The successful candidates shall have, at a minimum, the following qualifications:

Tier 1

  • High school diploma plus at least five (5) years of experience as a RCT/Health Physics Technician/Engineering Laboratory Technician at a Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), or Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensed facility

  • Must be DOE RCT Core qualified or equivalent. For purposes of this contract, the DOE Core Training requirements are defined as the 13 Fundamental Academic Lesson Plan requirements as referenced in the DOE Radiological Control Technician Standardized Technician Qualification Standard, latest revision

  • NRRPT certification is preferred for this position

  • Possess 40-hr HAZWOPER training and current Annual 8-hour refresher training

Tier 2

  • Two (2) years’ experience as a RCT/Health Physics Technician/Engineering Laboratory Technician at a Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), or Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensed facility

  • Must be DOE RCT Core qualified or equivalent. For purposes of this contract, the DOE Core Training requirements are defined as the 13 Fundamental Academic Lesson Plan requirements as referenced in the DOE Radiological Control Technician Standardized Technician Qualification Standard, latest revision

  • Possess 40-hr HAZWOPER training and current Annual 8-hour refresher training

Tier 3

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and at least two (2) years of experience in environmental restoration activities or equivalent and/or technical certification

  • Possess 40-hr HAZWOPER training and current Annual 8-hour refresher training

 

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidates live within driving distance to DOE/DOD sites within the Capital Corridor; works well independently & as a member of a team in a dynamic work environment; and can represent the Company in interactions with clients & project stakeholders.  The ideal candidates will also apply their experience, education, and effort to implement effective radiation safety programs and deliver high-quality health physics work products on-time & within budget.
